HELP A SCHOOL IN NEED

WHAT WE DO

Currently, we operate 155 schools in Northern Syria, making us the largest non-governmental education provider in the country. Our commitment extends beyond the present generation; we aspire to open doors of opportunity for Syrian children today and for generations to come.

In September 2023, we achieved a significant milestone by successfully building a new secondary school in an area of Northwestern Syria where many children, including 11-year-old Zayna, previously lacked access to secondary education.

CHANGE A CHILD'S LIFE

Syria's devastating conflict has taken a heavy toll on its educational infrastructure, with 40% of schools destroyed or damaged, resulting in 2.4 million children deprived of an education. The crisis in Northwest Syria compounds this issue as internally displaced families strain the region's capacity to provide schooling.

Lack of access to education can trap children in cycles of poverty, ill health, forced labor, and early marriages. At Syria Relief our mission is clear: to reintroduce as many children as possible to the classroom, offering them a chance to shape their own futures.

ZAYNA'S STORY

"I am absolutely thrilled to begin my first day in secondary school next week, My mum and dad were worried about what I'd do after finishing primary school last year. We are so happy that there is now a new school in the camp and I can't wait to see my friends and start learning again!”

The establishment of the secondary school marks just the beginning. With additional funding, we can further enhance our impact by employing more teaching staff and expanding our classrooms.Your contributions have made it possible for these children to access quality education, a fundamental right that will undoubtedly shape their future and empower them to reach their full potential.

ENHANCING ACCESS

We place significant emphasis on multiple key aspects of education. One of our primary focuses is dedicated to enhancing access to quality education. This goal is accomplished through school rehabilitation, teacher training, and the implementation of accelerated learning programs. In the year 2022 alone, these combined efforts facilitated access to education for more than 353,218 students in both Northwest and Northeast Syria.

In addition, we recognise the vital role of integrating education with protection and capacity development. Our comprehensive school approach is specifically designed to address the holistic needs of children, encompassing their well-being both within the school environment and at the community level.

Furthermore, Syria Relief extends its support to non-formal education programs in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor governorates. We play a crucial role in providing essential Self Learning Program (SLP) and Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) services to thousands of children in these areas.

By contributing £120 annually (which is only £10 per month), you have the opportunity to provide a child who couldn't attend school today with the chance to receive an education. Your support covers essential components that enhance the educational journey, including school furniture, teacher staffing, and heating for the winter months.

TEACHERS

We are pleased to introduce Nariman, an esteemed teacher specialising in Arabic and Mathematics at Mahmoudli Primary School in northwestern Syria.

Nariman shared a profound perspective on education as an inherent right for children, emphasising its continuity beyond certain age limits. In her insightful remarks, she expressed:

"A future with educated Syrian children looks bright, beautiful and wonderful".

Nariman's words highlight the transformative power of education in shaping not only individual lives but also the trajectory of the entire community.

EDUCATIONAL WORK

Our educational projects in Syria would not be achievable without our remarkable teaching staff on the ground. They not only ensure continuity in education but also strive to create a nurturing environment for the students, making it feel like a home away from home.

Education plays a pivotal role in the development of children, and in the context of North West Syria, the act of teaching becomes exceptionally challenging and perilous due to the profound impact of the conflict on children and the frequent attacks on educational institutions.

Teachers often witness firsthand the transformative impact education has on students' confidence, critical thinking, and future prospects. By sharing their observations and insights, teachers like Nariman contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the educational landscape.

In Syria, teachers wages are depreciating amid a deepening cost of living crisis, while access to curricula and educational equipment remains constrained. Additionally, schools are grappling with the growing challenge of overcrowding.

By contributing £120 annually (which is only £10 per month), you have the opportunity to provide a child who couldn't attend school today with the chance to receive an education. Your support covers essential components that enhance the educational journey, including school furniture, teacher staffing, and heating for the winter months.
