Using Football To #TackleChildPoverty
Football is a universal language that brings billions together and Syria Relief is using it to bring Syrian refugees together with the host community here in Lebanon, as well as providing some warm clothes and fun for children living in extreme poverty.
Syria Relief is currently teaming up with the Football Association, Brentford FC and Liverpool, Juventus and Paris St Germain legend Mohamed Sissoko to donate football kit and equipment to Syrian refugee children living in tents on the Lebanese border with Syria.
We are distributing over 3,000 items of England football kit, as well as items donated by Brentford FC, to children living below the extreme poverty line after fleeing Syria and FA qualified coaches are giving them football training sessions. This isn’t just about giving children high quality clothes, severely needed in the winter months, and fun they’ll never forget, it is about tackling mental health issues such as trauma. A study we did earlier this year found that 74% of Syrian refugees in Lebanon had symptoms compatible with PTSD. Recreational activity and exercise are proven to improve mental health.
The joy we are seeing on the faces of children, when they get a brand new England kit and have a game of football with a legend of the game like Momo Sissoko, is extraordinary.
At Syria Relief, we want you to help us tackle child poverty through education, cash assistance and many other ways. Please donate at Tackle Child Poverty.
